Seeking Green Science Projects by Middle and High School Students for the
Sacramento Valley Alternative Energy Fair
Saturday, May 22, 2010
at and hosted by the Heidrick Ag History Center 1962 Hays Lane Woodland, CA (near I-5 and Road 102)
Who, What, Where, Why, When and How: The Sacramento Valley Alternative Energy Fair, sponsored by the Heidrick Ag History Center, wishes to give students an opportunity to learn about principles, processes and/or applications of alternative energy sources and display their findings. Students may participate individually or as part of a group. Think of this event as a “Science Fair” focused on Alternative Energy.
Student projects will be displayed at the Sacramento Valley Alternative Energy Fair, Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Heidrick Ag History Center in Woodland. Projects will be judged with monetary awards for first, second and third place winners in each of two divisions. Everyone who displays work will be thanked and honored for participation.
What is alternative energy? Alternative energy refers to renewable (sustainable) energy sources that may supplement or replace today’s reliance on nuclear and fossil fuels. They include solar, wind and geothermal , but there are other potential sources that students may identify and explain/promote in their projects.
Displays: a typical “science fair” display is envisioned. These are generally table-top displays using a three-part display board (36” tall x 47” wide about 14” deep) readily available at office supply stores. However, creativity is encouraged, so the only clear limitation of a display is that it must be no wider than 6 ft., taller than 8 ft. and deeper than 3 ft. Electricity will be provided upon request. Any projectors, computers and extension cords will need to be provided by the student(s).
Divisions: Junior (grades 7-8) and Senior (grades 9-12). Prizes: $100, $75 and $25 respectively for first, second and third place in each division.
To Participate: Please submit an application for your project by April 20, 2010, so that event organizers can plan for appropriate space for student displays along with the displays of vendors of alternative energy processes, equipment and financing.
Application Forms: Application forms are available at aghistory.org or at the Heidrick Ag History Center. Please email your application to studentprojects@aghistory.org, or mail/deliver it to the Heidrick Ag History Center, 1962 Hays Lane, Woodland, CA 95776.
